Hot Seal Laminator
Hot seal laminators gently apply heat to a plastic pouch as it rolls through the laminator sealing
the sides and laminating the paper. The main benefit over cold seal laminators is the cost of the pouches.
Paperstone’s heat seal laminators can seal paper from as small as A7 up to large A2 sheets.
Paperstone also sell a wide range of laminating machine supplies.
Cold Seal Laminator
Cold seal laminators gently apply pressure to an adhesive plastic pouch as it rolls through
the laminator sealing the sides and laminating the paper. The main benefit over cold seal laminators
is that they don’t always need mains power and are safe for children to use. Paperstone’s cold
seal laminators can seal paper from as small as A7 up to A4 sheets.
Laminator
A laminator is a machine used to seal documents in a plastic pouch to ensure
that they are durable, waterproof and protected from continuous use. Documents
that might require lamination include ID cards, display cards, public
announcements and documents placed in kitchens or bathrooms. A laminator seals
a plastic pouch around the original paper or card document.
Hot vs cold lamination
Cold lamination uses rollers to secure a self adhesive pouch around a piece of
paper or card. Whilst cold laminators are cheaper initially they are more
expensive to run as the cold lamination pouches are considerably more
expensive.
Uses for a Laminator
As well as the uses stated above, laminators have been used to seal historical
documents in plastic to protect them from ageing. Such lamination is more
common with documents from 150 to 250 years ago, as older documents are too
fragile for lamination, and younger documents are usually already effectively
filed safely.
How to use a Laminator
A laminator uses heat to seal the lamination (plastic pouch) around the
document. To begin lamination, the laminator must be primed (allowed to
pre-heat). While this is happening, it is common to prepare the document for
lamination, by placing it in the plastic pouch. Larger documents to be
laminated may not use a pouch, but instead be placed between two sheets of
plastic. Once the laminator is ready, the prepared document (and surrounding
plastic) is placed inside and the laminator is closed around it for a few
seconds while the plastic is fused.
Types of Laminator
There are tow types of laminator - pouch laminators (described above) and roll
laminators (which uses sheets or rolls of plastic to laminate large documents).
Lamination pouches can be supplied in a range of sizes. Rolls of plastic
sheeting are also available for roll laminators.
