unbranding, n. a company’s attempts to avoid association with a particular celebrity because that person is seen not to fit with the carefully crafted brand. A company may send an image-incompatible celebrity a competitor’s product in order to damage their brand.

Example: The trashy U.S. reality show sub-lebrity Snooki was sent a Gucci bag – not by Gucci itself but by competitors.
