About International Women’s Day 2023
The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is “Embrace Equity”. It’s focused on the need to work towards a world where everyone has equal access to opportunities, resources, and rights, regardless of gender.
Equity is different from equality. It recognises that everyone has different needs and requires different levels of support to achieve their goals.
On International Women’s Day 2023, we celebrate the achievements of women and girls and recognise the barriers they still face. Women still earn less than men, and are underrepresented in leadership positions, particularly in politics and business.

What is the most important message you’d give to young women thinking about their careers? Surround yourself with good people. You spend a very large chunk of your life at work, so you don’t want to spend it miserable.
If you could have dinner with an inspirational woman who would it be and why? Judi Dench. She’s had a long, successful career (not without ups and downs of course), aged gracefully, and she’s maintained a brilliant sense of humour.
If I were a superhero my superpower would be to control the weather.

What is the most important message you’d give to young women thinking about their careers? Do something that makes you happy. Don’t be scared to push yourself and try new things.
If you could have dinner with an inspirational woman who would it be and why? Emma Watson – I love that she uses her platform to spread awareness for causes that matter to her, in particular women’s rights.
If I were a superhero my superpower would be teleportation; being able to go somewhere with sunshine at the click of a finger would be great.

What is the most important message you’d give to young women thinking about their careers? Always be yourself and believe in yourself. Don’t be scared to try new things. Follow your heart and dreams.
If you could have dinner with an inspirational woman who would it be and why? Giovanna Fletcher. She is an amazing actress, author, podcaster, wife, mother… and seems super kind and lovely too!
If I were a superhero my superpower would be to fly.

What is the most important message you’d give to young women thinking about their careers? Never give up. If things don’t go to plan, don’t worry. Mistakes are learning opportunities and they only make you better.
If you could have dinner with an inspirational woman who would it be and why? Kelly Holmes. What she’s achieved in her career is incredible. Her motivational speeches help so many aspiring athletes.
If I were a superhero my superpower would be to fly so I could get around quickly and not feel in a constant rush.

What can we do to embrace equity?
To embrace equity, we must work to break down barriers and create a more equitable world for all. We need to support women-owned businesses and women in leadership positions, and create policies that promote gender equality.
By working together and supporting each other, we can make a difference and create a better future for all.
