10 sustainable products for a greener office
Sustainable business, it’s not going anywhere as a topic of conversation. And at Paperstone, we’re no different.

We’re working to become a more sustainable business. As part of this, we’re working towards our Weaver certification. Weaver is an accredited sustainability program which helps businesses like ours to implement sustainable practices relating to carbon footprint, waste management, single-use packaging, sustainable products and social responsibility.
One area, small businesses like ours, can think about is: which products they buy, and swapping to more sustainable options. From stationery to furniture, there are plenty of sustainable products out there that will help you reduce waste, cut carbon emissions, and feel good about your choices.
Here are ten great products that we recommend:
Recycled notebooks & paper
Whether you’re jotting down ideas or writing notes during meetings, recycled notebooks are a simple swap that adds up in a big way.
For a lot of offices, printer paper is an essential, and you can get through quite a bit each month. The making of recycled paper creates less carbon emissions compared to producing new paper. Using recycled paper also means that less trees need to be grown and cut down, which saves on both water, and energy.

Recycled/refillable pens
Opt for eco-friendly pens made from materials like recycled plastic or sustainable wood. Some even come with refillable ink, reducing the need for constant replacements.
Bamboo desk tidy
A tidy desk is a happy desk, and a bamboo desk tidy is a stylish, sustainable way to keep your work essentials organised. Bamboo is a renewable resource that grows quickly, making it an eco-friendly alternative to plastic desk organisers. Plus, it’s durable and gives your workspace that natural, calming vibe. Win-win!

Recycled letter tray
A recycled letter tray is a solution that won’t cost the earth (literally!) – offering some organisation for all your paperwork and being better for the environment. They don’t have to look boring either – coming in bright colours, they can really perk up your desk space. Choose one made from repurposed materials like recycled plastic.
Eco-friendly toilet paper
If you want to make a lasting positive impact, consider switching to eco-friendly toilet paper. Look for brands that use recycled materials or sustainable bamboo, like Cheeky Panda. Gone are the days of recycled toilet paper being thin and unappealing.

Reusable water bottles
Hydration is important, but single-use plastic bottles are a big no-no! Bringing a reusable water bottle to work and filling it up throughout the day will not only save you money, but you’ll also cut down on plastic waste.
Eco-friendly washing up liquid
Keep the dishes clean but do it sustainably! Opt for eco-friendly washing-up liquids that are made with biodegradable, plant-based ingredients and come in recyclable packaging. These cleaning products are just as effective as traditional ones but without all the harsh chemicals. Plus, you can feel good knowing you’re doing your part to keep waterways clean and pollution-free.

Recycled waste sacks
If you’re looking to minimise your office’s environmental footprint and keep your office tidy at the same time, it’s time to upgrade to recycled waste sacks.
Recycling bins
Recycling bins are a must-have for any office looking to improve their waste management. Plus, from March 2025, all offices in the UK will have a legal duty to separate their waste. You can either get separate bins for each recycling category, or you can get one bin that has separate compartments. Educating everyone in the office on what goes in each bin can help make sure your workspace stays as green as possible.

Our favourite waste management brand Durable have a few Blue Angel certified bins, which means even the bins are made from recycled plastic.

Bamboo top sit-stand desk
If you’re ready to take your workspace to the next level, consider switching to a bamboo top sit-stand desk. While a slightly more costly investment, it’s a fantastic sustainable option, and gives you the option to stand at your desk, which is good for you too.
Other easy changes you can make
Avoid single use plastics/non-recyclable items and use refills for things instead. For example, if you’re a coffee lover, Nescafé Gold and Nescafé Original are now available in handy refill bags. Just keep the original tins and top them up with the refill bags when needed. This avoids unnecessary waste of the tins, therefore being kinder to the environment.

Handwash is also available in bigger refill bottles – keep the original dispensing bottles, and top them up using a 5 litre refill bottle.
More trees
If you place an order with Paperstone for over £50, you’re eligible for a free gift. One of the free gift options we offer is to plant a tree. This is a lovely way to help sequester carbon emissions, and adds more vital trees to this planet. At the time of writing, with our customers’ help, we’ve planted over 26,000 trees! You can see the latest total here.
