The proverbial “generation gap” has just been highlighted in a video clip of a little girl trying to use a retro-style landline phone.

The film showing young Layla’s confusion over an old-fashioned landline receiver has gone viral – and it’s enough to make many adults feel as ancient as the phone itself.

The clip shows Layla with her mum and dad in a hotel room, completely baffled by the old technology.

After calling room service, Layla’s dad asks her to hang up the phone for him.

After staring blankly at the device, she giggles and asks: “How do you do that?”

“Are you serious?” replies her stunned father. “It’s a phone, hang it up.”

But the ancient communication system is beyond poor Layla, who has to call Mum to hang it up for her. Then the family see the funny side and explode with laughter.

But perhaps Layla has had the last laugh: viewers have been asking why Dad had bothered to ask the hotel receptionist for a wake-up call when he could have set the alarm on his mobile phone!
