Calm Down, Dear – It’s Only a Job

If you have a high-powered, demanding job, and you feel stressed out, try some of the following tips recommended by experts:

  • Take time “off the grid” – go offline, and turn your mobile off too. You can’t do this during your contracted working hours, but you can do it in the evenings and at weekends. Send out a message to the world at large that you are not available to talk shop 24/7. Emails and phone calls are like a barrage of stressors sending adrenaline and cortisol racing round our body, and creating a host of health problems.
  • Cut down on caffeine which also triggers a rush of adrenaline. Adrenaline causes a state of high arousal in the body and makes it harder to react rationally to the challenges we face.
  • Get plenty of sleep. Staying up until midnight working on projects should be an occasional necessity, not a lifestyle. Sleep helps your brain recharge, so you can wake up with a clear head.
  • Be grateful for everything good in your life. “An attitude of gratitude” does wonders for your mood, energy and well-being. See the glass as half full!

KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON
