Tasteful Reality Show for the Global Recession

By Paperstone on April 15, 2009 in Office Workers

Murdoch TV network Fox has commissioned a reality show series called Someone’s Gotta Go in which recession-hit businesses are ‘helped’ to cut costs by shedding employees. The Endemol USA-conceived show is already in production but Fox won’t yet say when it will be aired in the US.

Each episode will feature a company with about 15 or 20 employees that the boss feels needs to cut costs by making an employee redundant but is too cowardly to fire them him- or herself. Instead the company’s books will be open to employees thus revealing pay discrepancies. The employees will vote on who should go.

Said Endemol’s North American Director, David Goldberg, “We’re always trying to find the next thing that is topical and timely in the zeitgeist. For a lot of people, it takes the pressure off them. As a boss myself, I don’t want to have to make those decisions. It’s safe to say it hasn’t been difficult to find companies willing to participate.”

Expect a decline in US ex-office workers going mental in their former workplaces with automatic weaponry. Good old Fox.
