Office furniture ‘can be eco-friendly’

By Paperstone on September 7, 2007 in Office Furniture

A new awareness campaign aims to turn the spotlight on the opportunities for businesses to select eco-friendly office furniture.

Posture People has put together some recommendations for companies based around best practices in the purchase of office furniture.

The firm claims that organisations are already paying high costs to dispose of waste and unwanted office furniture.

It cites statistics from Environwise which state that £1.5 billion is spent each year on waste disposal by businesses, which adds up to 4.5 per cent of their total turnover.

Jo Blood, director of Posture People, said that these figures – in conjunction with changes in attitudes towards the environment – have resulted in a new trend.

"What we are increasingly noticing is that the facilities managers that we liaise with when we are quoting for and supplying new office furniture are now charged with finding suppliers that offer more than just value for money," she remarked.

However, she added: "What is also clear to us is that recycling still has to make its mark where office furniture is concerned."

Recently, an article on ClimateChangeCorp.com claimed that the uptake of green office supplies at UK businesses was mixed.

At Paperstone we can supply your firm with a wide selection of office furniture.
