Satisfaction with printer cartridges 'varies by brand'

Printer cartridges Customer satisfaction with printer cartridges varies by brand, according to new research.

A survey of 7,000 users of printer cartridges by PrintCountry revealed that both original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and brand-name products received varied scores, ChannelInfo.net reports.

In the study, two sets of customers ranked their level of happiness with brands of printer cartridges; one set purchased OEM or brand-name cartridges and the other set bought generic or remanufactured cartridges.

Okidata and Samsung were the brand-name printer cartridges which received the highest ratings, with 4.90 and 3.92 out of five points respectively.

However, customers using generic or remanufactured printer cartridges gave the two companies' products a 2.95 and a 2.62.

According to ChannelInfo.net, "it can only be concluded that the overall function of these printers is so high in quality that the money saved when using a generic cartridge is not viewed as a benefit".

Meanwhile, some brands such as HP, Canon and Brother performed well in the survey regarding both OEM and generic printer cartridges.

Ian Thomason, operations manager of PrintCountry.com, told the news provider that most generic or remanufactured printer ink cartridges do not exhibit a "quality problem".

"But some customers are happy to use more expensive brand cartridges if they find that savings from using generic printer supplies are not significantly lower," he added.

Recently, Canon said that it was going to increase its production of ink-jet printers which print photos.
