As you will probably now be aware, one of the best known advertising icons, the Andrex puppy, has been replaced with a digital version. In a brand “refresh”, the Labrador puppy, who first appeared for the toilet roll brand in 1972, has been reinvented as a character in a digital “puppy world”, joined by British Bulldog and Dalmatian friends. The first ad in this sickly series, the 40-second ‘It’s the Little Things’, was first shown on 2 December.

Jon White, marketing director for Kimberly Clark Europe who manufacture Andrex, said, “The Puppy’s had a huge and loyal following since the first ad hit our screens in 1972.

“We really believe we’ve given him a new lease of life and have evolved his character.

“We’re confident you’ll love him and his new Puppy World and will be reminded about why you fell in love with him in the first place.”

In tribute to the undigitised favourite, The Telegraph recently posted a video of the original 1972 debut.
