Four in 10 UK office workers have done something at the Christmas party they would later regret, according to a new poll commissioned by Monster, the career specialists.

A quarter of those polled said they had done something “mildly regrettable” and a further 16 percent admitted to behaviour so reprehensible that it damaged their reputation or even led to their dismissal.

Charles Purdy of Monster cautioned that although the Xmas office party represented a great opportunity to build morale and camaraderie amongst colleagues, the normal codes of professional conduct applied.

“I recommend that people attending workplace parties plan to limit alcohol intake, and that they look at the event as a chance to network and socialise with colleagues and managers that they don’t otherwise have a lot of contact with,” he said.
