Xerox Sues Search Engines
This story’s been around for a few weeks but we missed it…
Xerox – giants of the copy technology and printing world – have filed lawsuits against Google and Yahoo for alleged patent infringement. The patents concerned concerns information technology developed by Xerox over the last decade. The first – # 6236994, filed in 2001 – is a method of integrating information which, say Xerox, Google violates through YouTube, Google Maps and Google Video and which Yahoo violates through its Shopping Service. The second – # 6778979, filed in 2004 – concerns query-generating system. It is violated, allegedly, by Google’s AdWords and AdSense tools and Yahoo’s Y! Q Contextual Search, Search Marketing and Publishers Networks.
Both Yahoo and Google deny the allegations.
