New eco-friendly printer cartridge scheme launched

By Paperstone on January 31, 2008 in HP

A new environmental programme which uses recycled printer cartridges has been launched by one of the world’s largest office machines manufacturers.

HP has announced that more of its printer cartridges than ever before will be made from recycled plastic during 2008, with the company aiming to double the number of inkjet cartridges made this way.

A new recycling process and system have been introduced by the office products company in a bid to make HPprinter cartridges more eco-friendly.

The office machines manufacturer has also pledged to use funds gained from selling the new green printer cartridges to fund humanitarian projects across Africa.

Michael Hoffmann, senior vice president of HP, said: "By developing the technology to use recycled plastics in original HP inkjet print cartridges, we have the opportunity to reduce the environmental impact HP products have on the planet.

"HP‘s considerable investments in building a recycling infrastructure made this achievement possible, and this is just the beginning of what we hope to accomplish."

Earlier this month, fellow office equipment manufacturer Canon launched a new campaign to help offices and companies around the UK become more environmentally friendly.
