The Labour MP for Mitcham and Morden spent more on office supplies such as Paper, envelopes and postage during the past year than any other member of parliament, new figures reveal.

Siobhain McDonagh spent tens of thousands of pounds on office supplies, including £35,207 on pre-paid postage envelopes and £13,900 on stationery, This is Local London reports.

During the 2003-04 and 2004-05 financial years, Ms McDonagh was also the biggest spender on these types of office supplies.

The MP’s spokesperson said that she uses so many office products to ensure she stays in contact with her constituents.

"Siobhain sends out lots of letters to her constituents because she wants to be the hardest working MP that she can," he told the news provider.

"If she did not contact them, she feels she would not be doing her job properly."

It was revealed last week that MPs racked up a total of £87 million collectively in expenses between April 2006 and March 2007. The expenses included money devoted to travel, staff, office equipment, office machines and office supplies.

Liberal Democrat MP Nick Harvey said the money helped ensure "that offices are fully staffed and properly equipped" to provide support to constituents.
