Canon has unveiled plans for a printer cartridges manufacturing facility in Oita city, Japan.

The office supplies provider is stepping up production of its printer and inkjet cartridges in response to rising demand for such office equipment among consumers.

Construction on the office products facility will begin next month, with operations likely to commence in September 2009, Canon said.

The company chose Oita city as a location for the facility to enable development of office products from a single location.

Cannon added: "The location offers close proximity to parts suppliers and the availability of a high-quality workforce from surrounding areas."

A technical skills training facility will be developed next to the printer cartridges production plant in Oita city, which is scheduled for completion in April 2009, the firm has also announced.

Lectures on the manufacturing of office equipment will be provided at the centre, which will be equipped with tools such as plastic-moulding machines, lathes, milling machines and grinding machines for lens production.

Canon manufactures a variety of office products, including printer cartridges, printers and more.
