Sales of office products 'slowing down'

Office products The sales figures of office products such as printers have slipped behind the amount of PCs being bought for the first time, new research has revealed.

While it was once the case that office products and computers were inseparable, over the last three years the gap between the sales figures for both sectors has grown, according to Bernstein Research analyst Toni Sacconaghi.

Market Watch from Dow Jones reports that worldwide PC sales grew by 14 per cent during 2007, while sales of office machines - including printers - grew by just three per cent.

However, this compares unfavourably to five years ago, when sales of office machines grew by 15 per cent and computers by 11 per cent.

Mr Sacconaghi said that the improved reliability of many office machines, combined with the range of all-in-one office products, means that people do not necessarily need to keep replacing their office machines.

Late last month, HP celebrated the 20th anniversary of one of its most influential office products ever.

The HP Deskjet range of office products revolutionised the office machines industry and was the first range to sell over ten million products around the world.
