Offices urged to trial workstyle revolution

Office furniture Office staff up and down the UK are being called upon to take part in the second annual Work Wise Week next month to try and revolutionise and improve working practices.

Staff and employees in offices across Britain are being urged to trial "smarter working" by working from home, being more flexible and try remote and mobile working.

The scheme is organised by the IT Forum Foundation and is supported by a number of high profile businesses and industry representatives, including the British Chambers of Commerce, Confederation of British Industry and BT.

Simple practices being proposed by the group include allowing staff to come in an hour earlier or later and letting them take a half-hour lunch break each day and leave at 15.00 on their last day.

Phil Flaxton, chief executive of Work Wise UK, said: "The age of working nine to five, five days a week, from a central location, is for many fast coming to an end.

"This rigid work structure, which is largely dictated by culture and nothing else, is wasteful in terms of time and resources, damaging to the environment and harmful in that it impacts upon stress levels and the health of employees."
