Office supplies are on parents' wish lists

Office supplies With the summer holidays descending upon us, office supplies are set to be in high demand in time for the new school term beginning in September.

And this trend is the same in the US as it is in the UK, according to a new study of 8,000 consumers conducted by the National Retail Federation (NRF) and entitled the 2007 back-to-school survey.

A higher percentage of parents are going to visit office supplies specialists rather than discount superstores such as Wal-Mart, the research discovered.

Whereas last year, the NRF's 2007 back-to-school survey found that 67.6 per cent of parents were set to visit discount stores, this number has shrunk to 67.6 per cent this year.

In terms of office supplies, 41.4 per cent of respondents expressed a desire to visit a specialist either in store or on line, contrasted with 35.8 per cent in 2006.

Families with school-age children were found to spend an average of just over $563 (£281.50) per child on items such as iPods, laptops, printers, printer cartridges and other office supplies. This figure equates to a rise of 6.9 per cent when compared with the previous 12 months, said the NRF.
