Memjet eyeing HP print sales battle

Printer supplies Idaho-based printing firm Memjet has set its sights on a printer supplies battle with market leader Hewlett-Packard (HP), as revealed in the Seattle Times.

Bill McGlynn spent 20 years working for HP and was part of the team that brought the revolutionary LaserJet printer into the world in 1984.

Now, as Memjet's chief executive, he is eyeing similar success in the printer supplies market, currently dominated by his old allies at HP.

And Memjet believes it has developed the technology to rival any company in the printer supplies business, suggesting its new printer can produce a standard-sized colour page in a second.

Steve Hoffenberg, director of consumer imaging research for Lyra Research, told the Seattle Times: "What Memjet is offering blows away anything else out there."

Mr McGlynn said that he had been fortunate to work with "two revolutionary technologies that have changed the way people work" and that the new Memjet technology will "do it in a bigger way than the original LaserJet".

The Memjet technology, which Mr McGlynn hopes will shake up the printer supplies market, was developed by Silverbrook research in Australia over a ten-year period.
