HP's storage offerings cut costs by half

Printer supplies Hewlett-Packard (HP), one of the world's leading printer supplies firms, has introduced new greener storage technology which it claims can cut power and cooling costs in data centres by 50 per cent.

The printer supplies giant revealed the new Adaptive Infrastructure offerings at its Americas StorageWorks Conference.

According to analyst firm StorageIO Group, 37 to 40 per cent of overall data centre energy use comes from storage.

HP has suggested that its new products can save customers with a monthly storage bill of $3,000 (£1,500) as much as $18,000 a year in power and cooling costs.

Dave Roberson, senior vice president and general manager, StorageWorks Division, HP, said: "Power and cooling is a key enabler for an Adaptive Infrastructure, and these environmentally responsible storage products will help address two key areas that our customers care about: saving money and conserving energy.

"With products like these, HP is helping customers build next-generation data centres that can lower costs, mitigate risks and optimise business outcomes."

The development is sure to cement HP's position as one of the globe's leading names in printer supplies, inkjet cartridges and IT solutions.
