Consumers 'have choice of green office supplies'

Consumers who are searching for environmentally-friendly office supplies have many choices about what to buy, it has been claimed.
An article in US newspaper The Southern suggests that practices such as clear labelling of green office supplies have helped raise awareness and educate the public about these issues of environmental responsibility.
For example, it states that the content for recycled material in plain copy paper can vary from ten to 100 per cent - and folders and file pockets can range from ten to 30 per cent.
Remanufactured toner and printer cartridges may also be labelled with symbols indicating how much recycled material has been used, the article explains.
Those who are seeking to go green regarding office equipment and supplies may want to consider doing some research on the internet, it suggests, adding: "Green office supplies can be readily found online."
It goes on to quote advice from another website, which claims that consumers should consider buying post-consumer recycled content "because it closes a material-use loop that does not rely on fresh-cut trees".
Additionally, the energy efficiency of office machines such as computers should be considered, the website says, as some models can be as much as 52 per cent more efficient than others.
