Aberdeen council looks to recycle office supplies

Aberdeen city council is to offer its schools, community centres and council offices a new range of recycled office supplies, as it strives to find environmentally friendly office equipment solutions.
The council will be including a local Creative Waste Exchange in its new office products purchasing catalogue, allowing customers access to a range of re-used and recycled stationary, office furniture and printer supplies.
Other than standard office supplies, Aberdeen city council will also be using the exchange to offer its members arts and crafts materials, such as broken tiles, tinsel, card and material.
The council's purchasing catalogue is issued to more than 4,000 officers and the inclusion of the new range of re-used office products demonstrates the sustainable purchasing policy it outlined in 2001.
"This is an excellent example of the council working with a local social enterprise to assist the local economy and bring a positive benefit to the environment," said Jan Falconer, a sustainable development strategist with the council.
"The council is keen that purchasing officers consider the most environmentally friendly option when buying new materials and the inclusion of this re-use range in the catalogue offers this choice."
Aberdeen city council recently funded Scotland's first wind powered primary school as part of its efforts to encourage renewable energy schemes.
