Aberdeen City Council goes green

Office supplies Aberdeen City Council has announced plans to adopt a greener approach, by choosing a local charity from which to buy its office supplies.

The council has revealed it will be purchasing office supplies and other goods from Aberdeen Forward's Creative Waste Exchange, linking the charity with schools, community centres and council offices.

The company, which recycles materials thrown away by local firms, will supply a range of office supplies, reused stationery and furniture.

Other key office supplies the charity offers include office stationery, office desks and chairs and an arts and crafts section offering broken tiles, tinsel, material and mounting card.

Creative Waste Exchange manager Gillian Marr said: "This is a fantastic move for us. Not only does it help us reach a wide range of organisations but it actively promotes green purchasing.

"We are delighted to work with the council on the delivery of their sustainable purchasing policy and hope the schools and community centres will realise the benefits, both financial and environmental, to be had by buying from us."

Jan Falconer, Aberdeen City Council sustainable development strategist, added that the partnership was an excellent example of how the council could work with local enterprise and benefit the environment.
