Office supplies firm signs up to WWF scheme

Office machines manufacturer HP is one of a number of companies that have signed up to a new scheme fronted by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).

Businesses from the office supplies sector and other industries are participating in the Climate Savers Programme in order to make their operations greener.

At a conference for the scheme, HP promised to reduce emissions from his products and its business to six million tons below 2005 levels by 2010.

It also said it would cut energy consumption by 15 per cent and energy usage by 25 per cent within the same timescale.

HP chairman and chief executive Mark Hurd explained: "HP has been an environmentally sensitive company for decades; it's simply part of our culture and DNA.

"We take a leadership role in climate change initiatives like WWF Climate Savers - and we will continue to seek innovative ways to reduce our carbon footprint."

It is not the first step a firm in the office supplies world has taken in making its business kinder to the environment.

Ricoh was recognised this month at the World Economic Forum for its green credentials.

And HP itself recently announced it is to back the Climate Positive carbon offsetting scheme.
