Office equipment giants team up for green campaign

A number of the biggest names in the world of office machines are teaming up in a bid to reduce the industry's effect on the environment.
Major office equipment manufacturers such as Dell and HP will join over 300 major international corporations for the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).
The Recycler reports that the CDP aims to increase efficiency in the supply chains of multi-national corporations, with emphasis put on the number of vehicles on the road, the amount of environmentally-friendly office supplies used and the effects of the businesses in the developing world.
Apart from the office machines companies, many other firms have signed up to the CDP including L'Oreal, PepsiCo, Merrill Lynch and Proctor & Gamble. The partnership will be called the Supply Chain Leadership Collaboration.
Paul Dickinson, chief executive officer of CDP, said: "The Supply Chain Leadership Collaboration is a key step towards a unified business approach to climate change.
"By bringing together the purchasing authority of some of the largest companies in the world, CDP will encourage suppliers to measure and manage their greenhouse gas emissions.
"This will enable large companies to work towards measuring their total carbon footprint, as this is the first step to managing and reducing it."
A number of other office equipment manufacturers - including Xerox - have released green office products recently.
