Printer cartridges 'can be turned into furniture'

Printer cartridges Garden furniture and fence posts could be the product of a firm's used printer cartridges under a new firm's office equipment recycling scheme.

UK-based Waycam Technologies has said it will recycle inkjet cartridges on behalf of office equipment users without depositing any parts in landfill sites.

Users of printer cartridges can register for the scheme via the printer supplies group's website.

Inkjet cartridges that have been re-used by the re-manufacturing industry have often been discarded in landfill sites where they take hundreds of years to decay and leak toner powder into the surrounding earth, Waycam said.

"[Waycam] are promoting the only UK solution for 100 per cent recycling of all parts of a toner cartridge and reusing the raw materials rather than sending them to landfill," the group said.

The move to fully recycle printer cartridges will also help firms to reduce their carbon footprint, the company noted.

Many printer cartridges have also been saved from landfill sites in Australia under a Cartridges 4 Planet Ark campaign, which claims to have reused or recycled 5.5 million inkjet cartridges, reports PC World.
