Honestly &#8211; we didn\u2019t expect it to be so eye-opening and useful. It helped us understand each other better, think about communication styles, and consider each other\u2019s strengths instead of accidentally clashing. So we thought we\u2019d share what DISC profiling is, why we loved it, and why we think more businesses should consider it.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Paperstone team during their DISC training session<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is DISC profiling?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>DISC is a personality framework that looks at how people behave and communicate. It groups people into one of four styles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>D \u2013 Dominance<\/strong>: Direct, results-focused, decisive<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>I \u2013 Influence<\/strong>: Sociable, enthusiastic, people-orientated<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>S \u2013 Steadiness<\/strong>: Calm, supportive, reliable<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>C \u2013 Conscientiousness<\/strong>: Detail-focused, analytical, organised<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>Most people are a mix of these, but usually one or two are more dominant. There were lots of \u201cohhh, that makes sense now\u201d moments. Things like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/www.paperstone.co.uk\/News\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/I.jpg\" alt=\"DISC - I profile\" class=\"wp-image-6854 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.paperstone.co.uk\/News\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/I.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.paperstone.co.uk\/News\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/I-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.paperstone.co.uk\/News\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/I-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Why some of us like quick decisions, while others want more detail.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Why certain people prefer straight-to-the-point conversations, and others need time to talk things through.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Why what feels \u201chelpful\u201d to one person can feel overwhelming to another.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead of assuming someone was being difficult, disengaged, or overly picky, we could see that they were just operating from a different style &#8211; and that was a game changer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Better communication, less friction<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the biggest wins for us has been communication. DISC helped us understand not just what people say, but how the other person prefers to hear things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Some people want to get to the point &#8211; no fluff, just the outcome.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Others want context, reassurance, and collaboration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Some thrive on data and details.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Others respond better to ideas and big-picture thinking.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/www.paperstone.co.uk\/News\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/S.jpg\" alt=\"S profile\" class=\"wp-image-6855 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.paperstone.co.uk\/News\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/S.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.paperstone.co.uk\/News\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/S-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.paperstone.co.uk\/News\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/S-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you know this, you can adapt how you communicate &#8211; and suddenly things move faster, with fewer misunderstandings and less frustration on all sides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How we\u2019re implementing DISC day-to-day<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One thing we were really conscious of was not letting DISC become one of those things you do once, nod along to\u2026 and then forget about completely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To make it stick, we\u2019ve built it into how we work:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Team profiles on our intranet<\/strong><br>Each team member has their DISC profile on our company intranet, so it\u2019s easy to refer back to. If you\u2019re about to start a project, give feedback, or have a tricky conversation, you can quickly remind yourself how that person prefers to communicate and what helps them do their best work.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Visual reminders around the office<\/strong><br>We\u2019ve put up posters around the office and on our digital wallboards that explain the different DISC styles, what motivates them, and how best to communicate with each one. It keeps DISC front of mind and acts as a gentle nudge when you\u2019re rushing or feeling stressed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Using the language every day<\/strong><br>We actively encourage people to reference DISC in conversations. It helps remove emotion and assumption from situations and keeps things constructive. Instead of \u201cyou\u2019re being too detailed\u201d or \u201cyou\u2019re rushing this,\u201d it becomes a much more positive conversation about styles and needs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The goal is to make DISC part of our culture &#8211; not a training session we vaguely remember, but something we practise every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>We\u2019re not trying to change our team<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This is important to us. DISC isn\u2019t about trying to \u201cfix\u201d people or force everyone to work the same way. It\u2019s about understanding everyone better and recognising that everyone is different &#8211; and that is a good thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/www.paperstone.co.uk\/News\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/C.jpg\" alt=\"C profile\" class=\"wp-image-6852 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.paperstone.co.uk\/News\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/C.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.paperstone.co.uk\/News\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/C-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.paperstone.co.uk\/News\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/C-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>It\u2019s helped us lean into our strengths as a team. We know who\u2019s great at driving things forward, who keeps us organised, who brings the energy, and who makes sure the details are right. Instead of everyone trying to do everything, we work more naturally and efficiently together.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why every business should consider it<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You don\u2019t need to be a huge business for DISC to be useful. In fact, we think it\u2019s especially powerful for small teams, where every interaction matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your business relies on people working closely together (and let\u2019s face it, most do), DISC can help:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>reduce misunderstandings and tension;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>improve communication and collaboration;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>build empathy and trust within teams;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>help managers support people more effectively; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>make work feel a bit more human.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Our takeaway<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>DISC profiling gave us insight, clarity, and brought a closeness to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.paperstone.co.uk\/contact\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the team<\/a>.
