Here\u2019s how they do it.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>It starts with a plan (and a calendar)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Sarah, our Head of Marketing, swears by early planning:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI start by making sure I have all school calendar dates added to my own calendar &#8211; term starts, term ends, INSET days. I also invite my husband so he can see them too.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>Many parents rely on tools like <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/us\/app\/icalendar\/id492076105\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">iCal<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.google.com\/calendar\/u\/0\/r?pli=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Google Calendar<\/a>, or shared apps like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cozi.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cozi Family Organizer<\/a> to keep the family in sync. Sarah creates a shared spreadsheet with all the people who might help &#8211; partner, grandparents, friends &#8211; and blocks out who\u2019s available when. Then she fills in the gaps with holiday clubs and events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBook early! Holiday clubs sell out fast,\u201d she advises. Signing up for newsletters and keeping an eye on school communications helps too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Flexibility is gold<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Working for an organisation that supports flexibility can make all the difference. John, our Sales Director highlighted how crucial this is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere is no value to the business or individuals for management to ignore the stresses of childcare. A stressed-out account manager rushing around isn\u2019t going to perform well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many parents take advantage of flexible hours, starting earlier or logging in after bedtime so they can be present during the day. This collaborative approach &#8211; between partners and employers &#8211; is key to managing the juggle without burning out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Home-based hacks for hybrid working<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/www.paperstone.co.uk\/News\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Working-parents-blog-2.png\" alt=\"Day plan for school holidays\" class=\"wp-image-6592 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.paperstone.co.uk\/News\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Working-parents-blog-2.png 400w, https:\/\/www.paperstone.co.uk\/News\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Working-parents-blog-2-200x300.png 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>For parents who work from home, preparation is everything. Max, our Customer Service Manager puts it simply:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cJuggling the kids is no mean feat &#8211; it takes a whole heap of planning. Sometimes you have to wing it and make do if things don\u2019t go to plan\u2026 and that\u2019s okay.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her holiday survival kit includes a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.paperstone.co.uk\/Search?q=whiteboard&amp;category-ids=2637-2973-2992\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">whiteboard<\/a> with a daily activity schedule (inspired by the \u201ccontinuous provision\u201d used in schools), alarms for snack and lunch breaks, and pre-prepped snack boxes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey know that when I\u2019m at my desk, they need to be quiet unless it\u2019s an emergency.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Making the most of the garden, playdates, and even letting kids get a bit bored &#8211; think dens, obstacle courses, and paddling pools &#8211; keeps them entertained while parents work nearby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>It takes a village<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Grandparents, siblings, friends, and neighbours all play vital roles. Max relies heavily on her mum (and sometimes her sister) for childcare:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSome days she ends up having four children with her!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As kids get older, siblings help with pickups and drop-offs. Friends return favours with playdates. It\u2019s all about building a support network &#8211; and not being afraid to ask for help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hayley, our Customer Relationship Manager said she also has to have family members on hand to do school pick up most days. She tries to book her little boy into as many clubs as possible during holidays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ed, in our tech team, mentioned how tools like the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.life360.com\/en-gb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Life360<\/a> locator app give peace of mind when older kids start walking home alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Know it won\u2019t be perfect &#8211; and that\u2019s okay<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>Not everything goes to plan &#8211; and working parents agree: that\u2019s completely normal. The secret lies in letting go of perfection and being kind to yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sarah\u2019s advice? Have a list of cheap, easy activities ready for those \u201cI\u2019m bored\u201d moments. Write ideas on slips of paper and let the kids pick one. It takes organisation, flexibility, and a whole lot of creativity.
