{"id":450,"date":"2011-10-18T00:08:02","date_gmt":"2011-10-18T00:08:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.paperstone.co.uk\/Wordpress\/?p=450"},"modified":"2011-10-18T00:08:02","modified_gmt":"2011-10-18T00:08:02","slug":"pay_cut_or_colleague_sacked_","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.paperstone.co.uk\/News\/articles\/pay_cut_or_colleague_sacked_","title":{"rendered":"Pay Cut Or Colleague Sacked?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" alt=\"Looking out for Number One?\" src=\"\/images\/NewsImages\/2011\/look-out-for-number-one.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Does altruism live in the workplace?<\/p>\n<p>In a recent poll commissioned by <a title=\"Opens in a new window\" onclick=\"PS.Core.Popup(this, 800, 600);return false;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.officebroker.com\/\">officebroker.com<\/a>, nearly two-fifths of office workers would rather see a workmate made redundant than take a pay cut.<\/p>\n<p>But 62 percent said they would sacrifice some pay in order to keep their colleagues in a job.<\/p>\n<p>If office workers had to make one sacrifice, it would be lunch breaks: 48 percent cited them as their first office sacrifice. Cigarette breaks (14%) came second, followed by  weekends (12%) and company car (8%).<\/p>\n<p>Chris Meredith of officebroker.com said the results showed that money wasn&#8217;t always the key motivator of workers<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Many people believe the way to motivate people is simply to give them more money but our results show that this view is far too simplistic,&rdquo; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Nearly two-thirds of those polled said they&rsquo;d be willing to take a pay cut to keep somebody else in the job which shows just how important a good team ethic can be in the workplace.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It was also particularly interesting to note that one in 10 workers would be willing to sacrifice their weekend off if it meant they were able to stay in a job.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">* * *<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.paperstone.co.uk\/office-interiors\/c-1890\">Office environment<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.paperstone.co.uk\/office-interiors\/c-1890\">Outdoor ashtrays<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.paperstone.co.uk\/catering\/c-197\">Office catering supplies<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Does altruism live in the workplace?
