The office party is not the place to wear that \u201cbit too slinky little dress\u201d or dodgy suit.<\/li>\n<li>DO go armed with some social ice-breakers- ask about people\u2019s holiday plans, children or hobbies outside of work, and avoid controversial topics like politics or religion.<\/li>\n<li>DO have fun and unwind &#8211; but DON\u2019T drink too much. You might end up confessing your sins, flirting inappropriately, or worse! DON\u2019T let the free booze lull you into a false sense of security- your superiors are still watching and may call you to account. If you know your limit and stick to it, then you can present yourself in the best possible light.<\/li>\n<li>DON\u2019T trap people in long conversations, however much you like them. That person probably wants to talk to other people, and other people want to talk to them. DO spend a few minutes with each person and circulate. If you\u2019re a shy person, concentrate on asking questions and getting to know people better (it helps to take the focus off yourself).<\/li>\n<li>DO watch your tongue. DON\u2019T gossip about colleagues or spread rumours &#8211; they might get back to the person concerned and you will appear less trustworthy to your colleagues if they hear you dishing the dirt on someone else.<\/li>\n<li>DO stay an appropriate length of time.
