Some people will be wearing odd socks to work on March 21 – and it\u2019s not because their socks disappeared into a black hole and ended up in a far-distant galaxy!<\/p>\n

Supporters of World Down\u2019s Syndrome Day will be making their feet stand out as much as possible by mixing and matching the colour, length and pattern of their socks – and you can join in too.<\/p>\n

Around one in 1,000 babies have Down’s Syndrome and it affects 750 babies in the UK every year. The aim of the awareness week is to increase understanding of the condition, and promote equal opportunities for people with Downs within their local communities.<\/p>\n

The Downs Syndrome Association (DSA) wants you to get involved in the campaign. Wearing odd socks in the office (and making a donation) is one way of raising cash, but if that\u2019s not your style there are other possibilities:<\/p>\n

Wear Green<\/em><\/strong>
\nAsk everyone to wear green for the day (to match the DSA logo) or dress up as famous \u2018green\u2019 characters such as Shrek, the Wicked Witch of the West, the Incredible Hulk or Kermit the frog. Collect a small fee and donate it to the cause.<\/p>\n

Office Olympics<\/em><\/strong>
\nInvent some crazy office-based \u201csports\u201d, like a Speed Typing contest or a quiz where you find all of the answers on Google in the shortest time possible. Charge an entry fee to take part and run a sweepstake.<\/p>\n

Give it up<\/em><\/strong>
\nAsk everyone in the office to manage without something they love for a designated period of time, with friends and family sponsoring them. It could be alcohol, smoking, sugar in your tea or chocolate\u2026.<\/p>\n

Swear Box<\/em><\/strong>
\nBring a swear box into the office and ask for a \u00a31 donation to the DSA every time somebody curses\u2026 this might be the biggest money-spinner of all!<\/p>\n

Phone Recycling<\/strong><\/em>
\nMobile phone recycling is an easy way to raise funds for the DSA. Ask everyone to bring their old mobile phones in to work. Then call the DSA on 0333 121 2300 and they\u2019ll arrange for the phones to be collected. You will be helping the environment and raising cash at the same time.<\/p>\n
