As a receptionist you\u2019re often the first point of contact when someone calls or visits the office, which means it\u2019s down to you to give a great first impression. No pressure!<\/p>\n

We know that you\u2019re at the heart of your company and without you everything would fall apart. It may not be all glitz and glamour and you\u2019re often doing three things at once (whilst on the phone), but there are some great perks too.<\/p>\n

You rule the office <\/b><\/p>\n

Anything happening in the office goes through you. Meetings, visitors, deliveries, events, interviews… You make sure everything runs like clockwork. Which it does, of course.<\/p>\n

You know nearly every employee<\/b><\/p>\n

Anyone entering the building has to walk past you and more often than not they\u2019ll stop for a chat. Although this does mean you\u2019re the first point of call when someone needs some paracetamol or has laddered their tights.<\/p>\n

You\u2019re inundated with office gossip <\/b><\/p>\n

You\u2019re always up-to-date with what\u2019s going on in the office. Who\u2019s just got a promotion? Where has Jan gone on holiday? And why is George wearing a fuchsia pink tie? We bet you know.<\/p>\n

Free gifts from the stationery supplier <\/b><\/p>\n

You may have to do tedious stock takes of the stationery cupboard (where do all the highlighters go, seriously?) but free gifts<\/a> from the stationery supplier<\/a> soon make up for it. Of course you\u2019re really nice and share them with everyone in the office. Sometimes.<\/p>\n

The pick of the hampers at Christmas <\/b><\/p>\n

Christmas cards, gifts and best of all – hampers. Being a friendly, helpful receptionist all year really pays off at Christmas time. These are best not consumed at your desk though, not with all that cheese and wine.<\/p>\n

Nabbing an invite to every team lunch <\/b><\/p>\n

You\u2019re not technically on a team, so every department invites you to their Christmas lunch. The only downside is that you\u2019ll be sick of turkey by Christmas day.<\/p>\n

You meet tons of people <\/b><\/p>\n

Sometimes it can get a little lonely out on reception. Practice your people skills and speak to your visitors. They\u2019ll most likely appreciate the company whilst they wait for the person they\u2019re visiting.<\/p>\n

You\u2019re in the right place for a promotion within the company <\/b><\/p>\n

If you\u2019re looking to move into a different area of the business, being a receptionist is a great place to start. Take the time to speak to as many people within your organisation as possible and always offer to help out different departments if you have time.<\/p>\n
