Newport is hoping to become the home of office equipment<\/a> recycling by opening a Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) processing plant.<\/p>\n

New regulations relating to WEEE have been at the forefront of manufacturers’ minds since they were first announced by the EU and the Port of Newport is hoping that its plant will make it easier to treat and dispose of waste office products<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Newport already claims to be the home of Europe’s largest metal shredder and is renowned as a metal recycling hub. <\/p>\n

Associated British Ports (ABP) and private firm Sims Recycling Solutions are to build the WEEE recycling plant, with ABP set to invest £2.2 million into the plant. <\/p>\n

The facility is set to cover 12 acres, increasing the port’s waste facilities to 36 acres, and is scheduled to deal with 100,000 tonnes of waste electrical goods and office equipment every year. <\/p>\n

Sims Recycling Solutions has recently agreed a new 15-year deal with ABP that will see the company increased all of its recycling facilities at Newport. <\/p>\n
