Aberdeen city council is to offer its schools, community centres and council offices a new range of recycled office supplies<\/a>, as it strives to find environmentally friendly office equipment solutions. <\/p>\n

The council will be including a local Creative Waste Exchange in its new office products<\/a> purchasing catalogue, allowing customers access to a range of re-used and recycled stationary, office furniture and printer supplies<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Other than standard office supplies, Aberdeen city council will also be using the exchange to offer its members arts and crafts materials, such as broken tiles, tinsel, card and material.<\/p>\n

The council’s purchasing catalogue is issued to more than 4,000 officers and the inclusion of the new range of re-used office products<\/a> demonstrates the sustainable purchasing policy it outlined in 2001.<\/p>\n

"This is an excellent example of the council working with a local social enterprise to assist the local economy and bring a positive benefit to the environment," said Jan Falconer, a sustainable development strategist with the council.<\/p>\n

"The council is keen that purchasing officers consider the most environmentally friendly option when buying new materials and the inclusion of this re-use range in the catalogue offers this choice."<\/p>\n

Aberdeen city council recently funded Scotland’s first wind powered primary school as part of its efforts to encourage renewable energy schemes.<\/p>\n
