A teenage entrepreneur in the US is pencilling out a prosperous future for himself, after starting up his own firm handcrafting wooden office supplies<\/a>, the LA Times reports.<\/p>\n

David Pantoja, 16, from Oxnard High School began making the office supplies<\/a> in a shop-class project and after attending an entrepreneurship course, started his company Dave’s Pens.<\/p>\n

The pens and pencils are crafted from hand-turned Bahama cherry, amboyna burl and other exotic woods.<\/p>\n

His office supplies<\/a> efforts were recognised by the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship in April, as he was one of 33 young entrepreneurs awarded $750 (£370) at a New York ceremony.<\/p>\n

Later the next month, he scooped second place and $1,000 in a competition run by the Greater Los Angeles office.<\/p>\n

He was set to go to junior college, after suffering poor results in high school. Now he is gearing himself up for a month long entrepreneurship scholarship programme at University of Southern California.<\/p>\n

"I ended up stepping into reality and saying, ‘I am in high school and I need to do so much better’," he commented.<\/p>\n
