Customer satisfaction with printer cartridges<\/a> varies by brand, according to new research.<\/p>\n

A survey of 7,000 users of printer cartridges<\/a> by PrintCountry revealed that both original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and brand-name products received varied scores, ChannelInfo.net reports.<\/p>\n

In the study, two sets of customers ranked their level of happiness with brands of printer cartridges<\/a>; one set purchased OEM or brand-name cartridges and the other set bought generic or remanufactured cartridges.<\/p>\n

Okidata and Samsung<\/a> were the brand-name printer cartridges<\/a> which received the highest ratings, with 4.90 and 3.92 out of five points respectively.<\/p>\n

However, customers using generic or remanufactured printer cartridges<\/a> gave the two companies’ products a 2.95 and a 2.62.<\/p>\n

According to ChannelInfo.net, "it can only be concluded that the overall function of these printers<\/a> is so high in quality that the money saved when using a generic cartridge is not viewed as a benefit".<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, some brands such as HP<\/a>, Canon and Brother performed well in the survey regarding both OEM and generic printer cartridges<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Ian Thomason, operations manager of PrintCountry.com, told the news provider that most generic or remanufactured printer ink cartridges do not exhibit a "quality problem".<\/p>\n

"But some customers are happy to use more expensive brand cartridges if they find that savings from using generic printer supplies<\/a> are not significantly lower," he added. <\/p>\n

Recently, Canon said that it was going to increase its production of ink-jet <\/a>printers<\/a> which print photos.<\/p>\n
