A Surrey arts centre could benefit from a new programme which recycles printer cartridges<\/a>, it has emerged.<\/p>\n

The office supplies<\/a> which are collected by local stationers Solicitations for recycling are sold and the proceeds go to Cranleigh Arts Centre, housed in a historic village school from 1847.<\/p>\n

More than £250 was generated from selling the recycled printer cartridges<\/a> during the first three months of the scheme, which began earlier this year.<\/p>\n

Cranleigh Arts Centre operations manager Jenny Squire said that small efforts could produce a large pay-off for the centre.<\/p>\n

"It could mean £1,000 a year for the arts centre or more if more people know about it," she remarked.<\/p>\n

News of the programme comes after a recent report from InfoTrends indicated that less than half of printer cartridges<\/a> are reused or recycled.<\/p>\n

It also found that 80 per cent of re-manufactured toner cartridges and 86 per cent of re-manufactured inkjet cartridges are thrown away because it is not economical to refill them.<\/p>\n

Previous to this latest printer cartridges<\/a> recycling scheme, the Cranleigh Arts Centre has benefited from £1.1 million in funding from the National Lottery, as well as the Foundation of Sports and Arts.<\/p>\n
