The security risk posed by office machines<\/a> which are connected to the network, such as printers<\/a>, has been highlighted by a manager at Lexmark.<\/p>\n

Minh Tran, who is a regional product manager at the Asia-Pacific arm of the printer supplies<\/a> company, told ZDNet.co.uk that he did not know of any particular security breaches involving printers<\/a> or similar office machines<\/a>.<\/p>\n

However, he emphasised the need for companies to properly protect such office equipment<\/a> to reduce vulnerability.<\/p>\n

"A network is never completely secure; it’s never secure enough," he said, according to the news provider.<\/p>\n

He explained that Lexmark has made sure that its printers<\/a> have additional levels of security to guard against hackers, who may use the office machines<\/a> to penetrate the corporate network.<\/p>\n

Some 87 per cent of senior IT decision makers polled by the office equipment company said that document and print security was "important" to their businesses, Mr Tran said.<\/p>\n

In late July, Lexmark reported that second-quarter profits had fallen due to weak sales of products such as printer cartridges<\/a>.<\/p>\n
