The office furniture<\/a> industry has woken up to the possibilities of marketing greener products, it has been suggested.<\/p>\n

Even five years ago the sector was not very concerned with how environmentally-friendly its office furniture<\/a> was, Mark Macheca, owner of US firm Business Furnishings, told the South Bend Tribune.<\/p>\n

He explained, however, that the growth of green products in recent years has put sustainable office furniture<\/a> "on the radar" for companies which value corporate responsibility.<\/p>\n

"I would say at this point we’re seeing in 50 per cent or more of the projects we see, the customers want to talk about environmental impact," he told the news provider.<\/p>\n

Some of the sustainable office furniture<\/a> designs Mr Macheca has seen include surfaces composed of compressed sunflower seeds and fabrics made from cornstalks.<\/p>\n

These solutions are not costly to businesses, he remarked, saying: "There’s no premium to go with environmental production. The furniture industry is one of the leaders."<\/p>\n

He added that many of the firm’s customers – which include universities, health care businesses and manufacturers – are paying attention to green issues regarding their office supplies<\/a>.<\/p>\n
