Sales of laser printers<\/a> increased by 8.2 per cent during the second quarter of the year, according to new figures.<\/p>\n

Market analysts suggested that the rise in sales of these types of office machines<\/a> was a result of vendors slashing prices and launching better-performing products, vnunet.com reports.<\/p>\n

But sales of inkjet printers<\/a> did not show a similar rise, increasing by 3.7 per cent year-on-year.<\/p>\n

Tetsuya Wadaki, an analyst at Nomura Securities’ Financial & Economic Research Centre in Toyko, told the news providers that small photo printers<\/a> did not perform well.<\/p>\n

"The [inkjet] market was dragged down in particular by weak sales of small photo printers<\/a> in the US and Europe," he said.<\/p>\n

He added that many consumers do not see the need to buy photo-specific office machines<\/a> when consumer inkjet printers<\/a> can now satisfactorily print photos as well.<\/p>\n

Although Nomura’s data indicates that Canon has been growing its sales of consumables and non-hardware products, HP<\/a> still claims the top spot among manufacturers of printers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Wadaki added: "[HP<\/a>] is looking to advance and refine inkjet technology in order to compete with the laser printer and copier market and other inkjet printers<\/a> are increasingly carrying out similar experiments."<\/p>\n
