Office equipment<\/a> manufacturer Xerox has vowed to undercut its rivals with the price of colour printing offered by its new product.<\/p>\n

The Phaser 8860 is the flagship printer in range of five new machines the company is bringing on to the market – and the firm is aiming directly at competitor HP<\/a>, Reuters reports.<\/p>\n

In what could be good news for anybody procuring office supplies<\/a>, it is claimed the Phaser 8860 can save make colour printing as cheap as black and white.<\/p>\n

The new addition to Xerox’s range of office machines<\/a> uses solid ink technology, which works by using wax ink sticks rather than the printer cartridges<\/a> used in laser printers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

With fewer disposable parts, Xerox claims that the printer can reduce the cost of colour printing to five cents (2.5p) a page.<\/p>\n

Jim Rise, a vice president at Xerox, said: "If you compare HP<\/a> color toner to what our inks will be, we will be one-fifth the price. <\/p>\n

"We think it’s going to help us grow our market share and attract a lot of customers who maybe don’t consider Xerox today."<\/p>\n

Xerox claims to offer "the document industry’s broadest portfolio of offerings", ranging from black-and-white printers<\/a> to laser and solid ink printers<\/a>. <\/p>\n
