Small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) vary in the way they use office equipment<\/a> such as printers<\/a>, a new international survey has revealed.<\/p>\n

A total of 66 per cent of SMBs have multifunction office machines<\/a>, according to a Lexmark study. However, the research indicates that only 34 per cent use them for faxing and scanning.<\/p>\n

The printer cartridges<\/a> manufacturer polled over 1,400 firms with up to 250 employees apiece and found that 63 per cent had taken measures to cut down on costs – which may include reducing the volume of printing done with office machines<\/a>.<\/p>\n

However, only 11 per cent said they had implemented strategic changes, such as those relating to workflow, to reduce costs.<\/p>\n

Marty Canning, Lexmark vice president and president of its Printing Solutions and Services Division, said that SMBs could do more to take advantage of the potential of their office equipment.<\/p>\n

"The gap between the capabilities of individual devices and their day-to-day use suggests that there are significant productivity improvements that could be unlocked," he remarked. <\/p>\n
