HP<\/a> is to expand its impact on tackling climate change by installing green technology at its office machines<\/a> development sites in the US and Ireland, it has emerged.<\/p>\n

The office supplies<\/a> company has agreed a power purchasing agreement with renewable energy company SunPower, which will cut energy costs by around $750,000 (£363,686) over the next 15 years.<\/p>\n

A solar power installation will be built at the office equipment<\/a> provider’s facility in San Diego as part of the move.<\/p>\n

Some 5,000 solar panels will be installed across five of its buildings and will convert enough power from the sun’s light to run ten per cent of HP<\/a>‘s office equipment<\/a> running costs.<\/p>\n

The firm has also announced an agreement with Airtricity that will convert about 90 per cent of the office machines<\/a> developer’s power use into renewable energy.<\/p>\n

"Switching to renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power makes both environmental and business sense," commented Pat Tiernan, vice president of social and environmental responsibility at HP<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Office equipment<\/a> manufactured by HP<\/a> includes desktops and workstations, notebooks, multifunction printers<\/a> and printer cartridges<\/a>.<\/p>\n
