Murdoch TV network Fox has commissioned a reality show series called Someone’s Gotta Go<\/i> in which recession-hit businesses are ‘helped’ to cut costs by shedding employees. The Endemol USA-conceived show is already in production but Fox won’t yet say when it will be aired in the US.<\/p>\n
Each episode will feature a company with about 15 or 20 employees that the boss feels needs to cut costs by making an employee redundant but is too cowardly to fire them him- or herself. Instead the company’s books will be open to employees thus revealing pay discrepancies. The employees will vote on who should go.<\/p>\n
Said Endemol’s North American Director, David Goldberg, “We’re always trying to find the next thing that is topical and timely in the zeitgeist. For a lot of people, it takes the pressure off them. As a boss myself, I don’t want to have to make those decisions. It’s safe to say it hasn’t been difficult to find companies willing to participate.”<\/p>\n
