New Year’s Resolutions at work & home: What’s your team planning?

By Paperstone on December 24, 2024 in Uncategorized

Ah, the start of a new year – the perfect time for fresh beginnings, ambitious resolutions, and, let’s face it, the classic “new year, new me” vibes.

According to YouGov, 27% of Britons say they plan on making some sort of new year’s resolution for 2025.

Furthermore, the new year isn’t just about personal growth – it’s also the perfect time to set intentions for how your team can work smarter, feel better, and maybe even have more fun in the year ahead.

New years resolutions planning

With that in mind, here are some resolutions ideas, both work and personal, that we’ve heard around the Paperstone office – maybe they’ll inspire your team too!

  1. Plan and diarise tasks for the week ahead at the end of previous week and replace 2 cups of tea with water. Sarah, Head of Marketing

2. Continue to build relationships, look after all my customers and hit all my KPI’s. Try and go on two holidays. Hayley, Customer Relationship Manager

3. Keep my desk a bit tidier (only a bit) and learn to solve a Rubik’s cube without looking up the algorithms. Peter, Ecommerce Project Manager

4. More reflection and more exercise! Jim, Founder & CEO

Of course, in addition to personal resolutions, there are some more workplace goals your team could work towards.

Celebrating wins

Wins, big or small, deserve recognition. For instance, celebrate closing a deal or remembering coffee orders. Cheer each other on. Small celebrations keep the vibe positive.

Love to learn

From signing up for courses to scheduling regular “lunch and learn” sessions or reading the latest management book; investing in skills should always be a priority. After all, growth feels good, and it’s great for the team too.

Not burning the midnight oil

Hustle culture? Over it. Instead, try working smarter and prioritising what really matters. In other words, no more working late just for the sake of looking busy.

Better time management

Everyone procrastinates sometimes, but let’s hold each other accountable in 2025.

Planning

Break tasks into smaller chunks. Use tools like Trello to stay on track. Be determined to tackle things head-on.

Making resolutions stick

In the same YouGov survey, 19% of people admitted to not keeping their resolutions made at the beginning of 2024.

However, the real trick to resolutions isn’t just setting them – it’s keeping them. So how do we make sure these plans don’t fizzle out by February?

Check-in regularly

Schedule quarterly reviews to see how things are going and adjust if needed. Within team Paperstone, we’ve had PDPs (Personal Development Plans) implemented, which help track goals inside and outside of work, and support each other in achieving those goals.

Celebrate progress

Don’t wait until December to appreciate the effort. Instead, celebrate milestones as they come. This could be as simple as mentioning a name in a weekly meeting, or offering a reward to someone for achieving their goal.

Get buy-in on those resolutions

Make it a team effort. When everyone’s involved, resolutions are much more likely to succeed. Ultimately, be each others’ cheerleaders!

Medals

The right tools

A little organisation can go a long way! Don’t underestimate the power of good old stationery – a wall planner, journal, or a well-designed habit tracker can add a touch of motivation (and fun!) to staying on top of goals. From flipchart pads, to colourful Post-It notes, Paperstone has got just the bits you need to create a fun habit tracker for yourself or your team.
