HP has been named a Wal-Mart supplier of the year for its role in helping the world's largest retailer world’s largest retailer expand its printer, ink and office supplies business and develop environmental initiatives.

During 2007, Wal-Mart and HP worked on a number of projects together, as well as increasing the range of office machines and office supplies available in its stores in the US and its Asda chain in the UK.

Kristen Woods, sales director at HP, said: "This award represents a lot of dedication by many HP organisations.

"Wal-Mart is one of our most valued customers and we're proud to be able to bring our broad technology portfolio and leadership in environmental responsibility to help them better serve theirs."

In related news, HP has teamed up with Illuminata to introduce a new range of technologies designed to speed up the company's office machines.

John Webster, principal IT advisor at Illuminata, said: "There is a growing demand among customers with smaller storage needs for features to support high-profile data and applications, as well as deployments of virtual servers."

Office equipment manufacturer scoops award

Office products One of the world's largest office equipment manufacturers has scooped a prestigious award for two of its new products.

Independent research firm Better Buys for Business handed its Top Innovative Office Products for 2007 gong for two products made by office equipment company Xerox.

The two office products revelling in the limelight are the Xerox Phaser 8860 colour printer and the Xerox WorkCentre 7675, an advanced colour multifunction system.

After analysing a range of competitors on the market, the research company decided that the functions on the office equipment models kept them apart from rivals.

The Phaser 8860 was commended for "breaking all the rules on cost per page for smaller workgroups"; it is the first office machine to provide high-quality colour pages for the same cost as identical black and white pages.

Meanwhile, the WorkCentre's "high-speed" capabilities helped Xerox win the award.

Russell Peacock, president of Xerox Office Group, said: "We're always focused on developing document technology and services that help our customers improve and simplify the way they do business.

"Honours like this from Better Buys for Business reinforce the value of innovation and the importance of aligning our investments with our customers' needs."

Earlier this month, Xerox launched its new 650/1300 Continuous Feed Printing System.
