Nebraska govt 'overcharged by $3m on office supplies'

The government of the US state of Nebraska has been overcharged by $3 million (£1.5 million) on office supplies by a large company over the last three years, the state's auditor has claimed.
An exclusive contract between the state and the office supplies company was signed in 2005 and state auditor Mike Foley announced that the government had been overcharged by more than 400 per cent on office supplies and office equipment since the deal was agreed.
One example of overcharges Mr Foley gave was staples: they should have cost the state 21 cents per package, but the charge was $1.06, the Associated Press reports.
Mr Foley said: "Once they won the contract, they just started sending invoices and thinking nobody would check. Who's going to keep track of a pair of scissors or a roll of toilet paper?"
Earlier this month, a study found that many workers across the world are becoming increasingly aware of the environmental aspects of using office machines and office supplies.
According to a survey by office machines manufacturer Xerox, 40 per cent of those polled said that their top pet peeve about colleagues was mindless printing resulting in abandoned pages at the side of office products.
