Ink-free office machines 'could save printer cartridges'
07/01/2008 16:55
A new partnership between ZINK Imaging and Polaroid announced by the companies could get rid of the need for printer cartridges on certain office machines.
The first of the office machines manufactured using ZINK Imaging's ink-free technology is a small mobile printer that produces photos from digital cameras and camera phones.
According to Polaroid, the Digital Instant Mobile Photo Printer will be on sale during the first half of 2008, allowing users to produce photos from the small office equipment in less than a minute.
Further office products are planned to include the technology, which will contribute to Polaroid's plan to make printing more mobile.
Jon Pollock, vice-president and general manager of digital imaging for Polaroid, said that "an entirely new class" of office products will result from the collaboration.
"Our partnership with ZINK Imaging will enable us to recreate the magic of Polaroid instant photos in a digital format that will revolutionize the digital imaging industry," he remarked.
Meanwhile, Wendy Caswell of ZINK Imaging, said that the office equipment will help provide a "revolutionary and magical" printing experience to users.
Polaroid manufactures a variety of office supplies and devices, including cameras and printers.
