Flash technology for Xerox office machines
21/01/2008 13:25
Office equipment manufacturer Xerox has explained how its non-contact flash fusing technology can significantly increase printing speeds.
The office supplies firm claimed that around 500 colour pages per minute could be produced by the technology, which involves flashing a high-intensity Xenon light thousands of times per second.
In this way, the Xerox office machines fuse toner to paper without permitting any components to touch the surface of these office supplies.
Daniel McCue, vice president and chief technology officer at Xerox Production Systems Group, commented: "This fusing technology is a great example of how Xerox innovation drives the development of colour products with functionality never before seen in the marketplace."
He added that the technology provides customers with "high-reliability" printing "at extraordinary speed and print quality".
Previously, office machines that used toner would heat the entire paper and use pressure to affix the image.
Around 110 pages per minute were able to be produced using this method, while a further restriction meant that surfaces with adhesives were the only office supplies that could be used successfully.
Xerox was granted more than 500 US patents in 2007, the company announced earlier this month.
