Sales of office machines 'high in December'
16/11/2007 15:33
Sales of office machines, such as printers, are boosted during December, it has been claimed.
Writing on vnunet.com, Neil Frackiewicz explained that two of the most popular periods for buying office equipment are the September-October back-to-school season and the run-up to Christmas.
A range of different types of office equipment are popular among shoppers at this time of year, he suggested, adding that multifunctional devices (MFDs) have been increasing most rapidly.
He said that 15 per cent of inkjet printers sold in 2006 were rung up during the final month of the year. Of those office machines, more than half (54 per cent) were MFDs.
Additionally, the office supplies expert described the proportion of fax-enabled MFDs within these sales, compared to office machines that simply print, copy and scan.
MFDs that have the additional fax capacity account for around 20 per cent of the total units that have been purchased so far this year, said Mr Frackiewicz.
He concluded by suggesting that single-function office machines, such as A4 printers, are declining in popularity, seeing sales so far this year decrease by 21 per cent compared to the same period in 2006.
UK consumers could spend a total of £53 billion in the run-up to Christmas this year, according to Apacs, the UK's payments association.
